Housing Starts Jump in November
Housing
starts leaped 22.7 percent in November to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of
1.09 million units, the Commerce Department reported yesterday. Starts were
29.6 percent above their rate a year ago. However, permits for new
construction, which are considered a gauge of future demand, fell 3.1 percent
to an annual rate of 1.01 million.
